Most people like to go out on a nice spring day in their boat or on a chartered trip and catch a fish. Well the Barkley Sound winter chinook fishing can provide that. There have been some gorgeous spring fishing days over the past week with some excellent fishing. Sarita Bay and the area from the Green Boy (CAN) to Nanat and then Poett Nook up to Bamfield has had some good feeder chinook fishing. The fish are averaging 6 to 9 pounds in the area but they are feeding on slack tide and during the first two hours of the morning.
The fish have been hitting silver coyote spoons preferably 3 and a half to four inch in size. The silver spoons have been coyotes and the best have been strait silver and green nickel. Irish Mist, Green spatter back, and white-blue hootchies have also been good. Best leader length has been 42 to 44 inch behind a plaid or green hotspot flasher. Guide Bart has fished 5 of the last 7 days in the sound and has picked up just one fish over 20 pounds at 130 feet at Swale Rock on a purlpe haze hootchie. Most of the other fish have been averaging 6 to 10 pounds with a few in the teens.
We are expecting the fishing to remain fairly good. The week ahead looks good with little wind and rain. Looking forward to Easter weekend with some beautiful salmon fillets on the barbecue. Slivers Charters is looking forward to some terriffic summer fishng in Barkley Sound and the Bamfield area.
