The winter steelhead fishing in Port Alberni B.C. on the Somass-Stamp River system is excellent. Both the upper river and lower river are excellent. This week saw the river at moderate use with anglers spread out. The area below "the bucket" which is the lower river is an area where one can use natural bait. Artificials are the only lures allowed to be used in the upper river. Most successful anglers are using jet boats. Those wanting to walk the river should come in at the gun club.
Our guides are hooking 12 to 14 fish per trip for clients. The fishing is very close to what it was like in December. Water conditions are excellent and there are new fish coming into the system daily. We are now thinking the winter steelhead season will continue into mid April.
If you are coming please review all regulations. Please make sure you have your fresh water license and steelhead tag. Limit is two hatchery fish per day. If you are looking for a guided trip with accomodation in one of our lodges call or email Doug at Slivers Charters 250 724 2502 dlindy@shaw.ca
We are now booking fall 2007 coho trips on the river. Returns are forecast to be very good.
