What can I say? It simply does not get any better than my last couple days on the water! On Thursday I had Don Travis and crew back for their 2nd day this week. On Tuesday they had caught 16 blackfin but only 1 nice yellowfin so we were hoping to add some more yellows to their ice chests. They were not disappointed! Within the first few hours we put I don't know how many blackfin and 4 nice yellowfin in the boat. The big fish weighed in at 185lbs and the other three were pushing 100. After that we had a couple slow hours where the kings and sharks would not leave us alone. Finally we got back on the real fish and put a nice double of yellowfin plus a 50lb wahoo in the box then called it a day. It's always a nice surprise to catch a wahoo while chumming because usually they bite through the leader. They had so many fish that they donated a nice fat yellowfin for me to cook for a group of Korean War vets that I am friends with. Great people, great fish, and a great day! On Friday I had Rob Rainwater and crew down from Baton Rouge. This was their 3rd reschedule but it was worth the wait! Mike Lane came along to film an episode of Sportsman's Paradise TV and it may be the best show we ever filmed. The very first bait in the water got creamed about 15 seconds after going out and it was largely non-stop from there. We did not spend more than 20 minutes the whole day where we were not fighting a fish. Greyson got the big boy and fought him for about an hour with no harness! He refused to take one no matter what I said to him. He wanted to do it "mono r thunnus." It ended up being the second largest tuna I have ever seen caught with out the harness weighing in at 185lbs. Needless to say he spent his next few turns in the been bag! When he was finally ready to fight another fish, of course the fish that hit was another big boy. Five minutes into the fight he was shaking like a leaf and I called a rod pass. Matt finished the fish out and we headed to the dock with seven nice yellowfin in the box. Another great day with great fish and great people. All the fish were caught on Seaguar Premier Fluorocarbon and Mustad 6/0 Demon circle hooks. Everyone is always surprised that I use such small hooks but those Mustad 39950 Demons have never let me dowm. I have probably caught about 3000 tuna on them and I have never had one fail. Never. I will be back on the water come Tuesday and will let you know how it goes. I am booked up for the next week except for this coming Thursday the 25th and I would love to book that day as well if anyone is interested God bless, Good fish! Capt.
