[New York Bight,NY] It's a gift! What else can you call it when you fish from sunrise to sunset and catch fish the entire time? That's what happened this past Monday, Nov. 20th. And I will definitely give thanks. After five days of dismal conditions due to last week's wind and rain, the fall run bounced right back.
[New York Bight,NY] Another break in the high winds allowed me to find working fish under the birds again today. Things should continue this way through November as long as we get a break with the weather.
[New York Bight,NY] All it took was a break in the weather to find the fall run under way. Striped bass & bluefish were blitzing on rain bait and p-nut bunker.
[New York Bight,NY] The fall run of striped bass got an early shot in the arm as fish up to 36" turned on in Jamaica Bay in repsonse to the annual run of mullet. Albies have been showing but are still playing very hard to get. Blues up to 10 pounds are still making a good showing.
[New York Bight,NY] False albacore have arrived right on schedule, but are tought to catch. Cocktail blues are abundant.
[New York Bight,NY] Tough seas kept me inside this week but the old reliable bluefish kept me in the game. Big blues were doing their top water thing and taking fly rod poppers.
[New York Bight,NY] Skipjack tuna invaded our inshore waters over the weekend. Tuesday morning was an all out blitz, with many fish taken on fly and light spinning.
