Bio: Captain Jim Hobales was born and raised in South Florida. In the early years he learned to fish his home waters of Miami's Biscayne Bay and the Florida Keys. In the early 1980's he was introduced to Flamingo, at Everglades National Park, it was a life changing experience. Captain Jim became obsessed with the fishing in both Florida Bay as well as Whitewater Bay in the backcountry, no matter if it was sight casting on the flats to tailing Redfish, plugging a shoreline for Snook or casting a fly at rolling Tarpon.Captain Jim earned the title of Master Angler coming up through the ranks of the Miami Sport Fishing Club, a club that is rich in history, tradition and a leader in conservation in South Florida. As a member in good standing for 16 years he believes in the clubs roots and conservation measures, usually taking them to an extreme. Being a competitive angler he has competed in tournaments winning several events over the last ten years.
[Flamingo,FL] The seasons have definitely started to change the mornings are cooler, the afternoon heat isn't in the 100 degree index and the water temperatures are in the mid 80's. What does this mean to us as anglers, we can fish longer with less fatigue and hopefully put more fish in the boat.
[Miami,FL] Fall is here and so are the predators!The seasons are starting to change the waters is cooler and we are in the middle of our second week of northeasterly breeze. We are not really getting our N.E. pattern from cold fronts but from lows coming in from the Atlantic ocean, either way it it accomplishes a couple things.
[Flamingo,FL] This was one of those trips that was really loaded with plenty of action, Paul had a Grand Slam which consisted of a 50" Tarpon, Snook, Redfish and a Trout. Peter had a Slam, Redfish, Snook and Trout. The guys went back and talked it up at the dock with there cousin's on the other boat. there were plenty of stories and smiles.
[Flamingo,FL] September starts a cooling process and the baits start to migrate thru. big action the rest of the month.
[Miami,FL] We are coming off a full moon with very strong tides and good amounts of bait. The action is good with perfect weather but it's been very hot.
