We have finally moved into the "Fall Pattern" for tuna fishing. Although we had to run a little further than I wanted to the fishing was good. I had the Raul Perez crew over from Houston, Tx. Last time I fished with Raul he boated a 98lb. Wahoo with no wire leader of course on a circle hook. This time he was looking for something like that again. Our first stop was a dud. I thought for sure it would pay off. I went in the opposite direction of where most of the fleet was heading hoping for the type of tuna bite we are use to this time of year. It didn't happen. Our next stop 20 miles further did produce some fish. It didn't take long to get our first bite, Mr. Perez caught and landed his first YFT which went about 80-85lbs and took about 30 minutes to land. The next three lines out, we had three good hits leaving huge boils under the bait, a little line was taken but all three times we reeled up beat up bait missing the hook sets. The fifth fish that hit came out of the water with the bait in his mouth. We knew for sure we had this one. The line went tight the drag screamed and he was on. 1 hour and 45 minutes later we had a nice 135lb. Yellow fin in the boat. Any fish over 100lbs. is a great catch and it was this anglers first tuna. He is spoiled now. The fishing is good right now and we've got open days. If your looking for that big YFT or Wahoo now is a great time to go.
