We entertained a large corporate firm this week, many of whom had never used a spinning reel or caught a saltwater fish.
They headed downriver with Capt. Ron on his 24 ft. Ranger to target bruiser redfish using Mann's Baby Mid-Minus crankbaits. It took a bit of coaching on the part of Capt. Ron, but Benji caught on and started casting and retrieving the crankbait as instructed. A large hole appeared behind the lure and line screamed from the small spinning reel as Benji hollered "Whoooooaaaa...I think I've got something!"
Capt. Ron quickly raised the trolling motor and trimmed up the big motor as the fish dived under the boat in an effort to free itself. When the fish settled down, Ron slid the brute into the landing net and Benji was estatic. Not only had he landed his first saltwater fish, but a trophy bull red of over 20-pounds as well.
The day continued with the Warren and Benji playing catch and release with the bronze brutes under sunny skies.
Many memories were made and before the group departed, Benji stated, "Everyone in our firm needs to come to Venice...the people are so nice, the fishing is unbelieveable and the food on the Sportsmans's Lodge was great!"
