Cant believe its August already wow..tuna will likely be the main target from now until March, dolphin bite has taperedoff althopughI heard from one private boat that they couldnt keep them off the lines while tuna fishing - they didnt catch any tunas either..kind of reminds me of our marlin season.same stroy we caught of few in between the dolphin attacks..welcomed problem for sure..Everyone cancelled yesterday (Tuesday) due to squalls..weather was a factor agian today but we went for it about 630am..ftravelled the path of least resistenace to Medusa..fishing was pretty good when we got there..two other boats all three of us hooking up on the first drift..imagine the current running so hard that we wee drifting toward the rig with both engines in gear..I had the Harper crew, Leger had the Rogers and Hunter had Ryan et al.Scott and I started at Medusa he bailed after the flottilla arrived I stuck it out.like I said the bite was good, and consistent untilthe crowd arrived raking the fish and running them deep..at one point 10 acres were covereedc over with fottballs and a marlin even popped up in the center..we were confident the bite would be consistent.. (speaking of that word) the squalls provided consistent wind and rain and challenges to keep our feet throughout the day..at one point we had a doubleheader on, bearing down on the rig, 2 knt current..right intothe doublewhammy zone or the area where the waves are reflected off the spar ..anyway one fish going one way the other the next..transom door opened in the mellee..had to run upcurrent drag the fish around the opposite side of the rig..it worked and we got both fish out and clear; but only to tangle the lines and pull hooks on one..still we landed our largest fish of four that drift; a fat 105 pounder; which incidentally took everyone on board to land..final tally was 4 yellows and 2 blacks on our boat however we only went home with 3 yellows..Scott had the father son duo of Johnny and John Rogers - they ran away from one squall right into another..it was probably a good call since we didnt get on the fish until azfter the flotilla left..they had 6 yellowfin between the two of them or as boat limit, Hutner being the showman that he is had 7 yellows and 6 small tuna..pretty good day all in all considering none of us thought Wednesday would be fishable...weather which was one our side all summer is showing signs of its regualr pattern..will make the best of each day here on out..enjoy the pics..
