Venice Fishing Is Fantastic - How Come We Never Knew About This Place?

Jeff Harris and his friend Scott traveled over from Rockwall,TX. last week to sample three days of offshore fishing in Venice. After speaking with Jeff, I decided that Capt. Bill Delabar would be the perfect captain to show them why Venice was named one of the best fishing destinations in the world by ESPN.

On Monday, they headed out on the 32-foot Twin Vee "Anger Management" under near perfect conditions. After a quick stop to load the livewell with frisky baits, they headed south towards one of the floaters.

Once there, they quickly deployed two lines and it didn't take long to get things heated up.

Jeff and Scott reeled in yellowfin tuna after tuna, then doubled up on some triple digit tunas. Next they added four wahoo and several big bull dolphin to the mix. If that wasn't enough excitement, they had an estimated 500-pound blue marlin leap out of the water and try to eat the short bait just feet from the transom. The big blue missed the hook and the guys tried to drop back to the big billfish, but had no luck in hooking up. It certainly got everyone's blood pumping though and was a great culmination to a fantastic day of fisihng!

The only dilemma the customers had upon their arrival back at Venice Marina that evening was what to do with all the fish they caught. It seems they maxed out all of their cooler space on the first days trip...and they still had two more days of fishing to go.

On Tuesday, they decided to target marlin -- something they could catch and release. Capt. Bill put out a spread and they pulled along a rip and wrapped a few rigs. Just to prove how wonderful our fishery is, they dropped one bait over and immediately heard ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ as a big tuna smoked the line off the Tiagra. Once the big tuna was boatside, it was released to fight again.

They sucessfully released tuna, but releasing a thrashing dolphin at the side of the boat proved to be more of a challenge.

On their final day, Wednesday, Capt. Bill pulled out all the stops and treated them to a view to a kill beneath the waterline with a freedive near the Lena platform.

I met Jeff and Scott at the dock that evening and they relayed their exciting trips and promised to send some photos when they got back to Texas.

Jeff who fishes offshore quite a bit out of Texas asked Capt. Bill, "How come we didn't know about this place?"

The secret is out now, and Harris promised he'll be seeing us again "reel" soon!

There are still some weekdays open in AUGUST along with one SATURDAY a couple of FRIDAYS and some SUNDAYS.

If you are up to cranking on some powerful yellowfin tuna, or watching the excitement as big bull dolphin leap skyward and wahoo streak 200 yards of line off the reel in a matter of seconds give me a call. I will personally schedule your date with one of the most professional and productive captains in Venice aboard a FAST ~ WIDE ~ COMFORTABLE boat.
