Venice - Thursday WAAAAYYYY Offshore Report
Sometimes you just have to take a chance, and that is just what Capt. Hunter Caballero decided to do on Thursday.
Terry HAYES, his lovely fiance' Amie Pickens, Lonnie Dunn, Bill Bezdek and Troy Davis were ready and raring to go at 5:00 a.m. They settled down in bean bags for the long run on the 32-Twin Vee "Tail Whipped."
They had perfect conditions with 0-1 foot seas, sunny skies and calm winds. Although the forecast was in the mid 70's, I always recommend wearing plenty of layers as the run down the river or any of the passes is cold to say the least this time of year. That is the only part of our pre-trip conversation they forgot about, so their ride out was a chilly one to say the least.
Upon their arrival at one of the floaters, they enjoyed a L-O-N-G day of jam packed action. Amie got to battle a shark as well, which tested her stamina as the guys cheered her on.
I met them at the dock Thursday evening to greet them and take a few photos.
Troy, who fought his first yellowfin tuna ever, told me he couldn't imagine the power of these fish until it was his turn on the rod.
"I came really close to handing off the rod," he admitted after battling his first stubborn 40-pounder in deep water.
The crew ended their day with 11 nice yellowfin tuna, which Hunter cleaned and packed for them at the dock.
Before they headed north with four bulging ice chests, Terry told me, "Capt. Hunter is a great captain and we thoroughly enjoyed our day. He's got the fire -- he's a hard worker and good fisherman -- we'll be back for that triple digit tuna soon."
Looks like there is a stretch of nice weather coming up next week. If you want to get in on the yellowfin action or maybe target wahoo that have made an appearance on a rip, give me a call and I'll schedule you with one of the TOP CAPTAINS on one of the FASTEST and most comfortable vessels in Venice.
